FAQs

Table with built in water basin. There is a small amount of water in the basin and various objects, for example shells, toy sea creatures, to provide children with a sensory experience.

How will parents be kept up to date with daily activities?

Parents will be regularly updated using ParentAdmin and ParentApp. Here you can find and update your details, see payment information and engage with online learning journals.

Waterfront Nursery also has a notice board at the entrance, where you can see daily menus and updates whilst you are dropping your child off.

“My child can make choices and is confident in vocalising this. I am able to see evidence of this in the learning journals.”

What types of learning experiences will my child be offered?

At Waterfront Nursery, we have three learning environments dedicated to guiding children through every stage of their development. We have a learning environment for three months-two years, two-three years and three-five years, and encourage outdoor play as much as possible.

If you are interested in more information on this topic, visit our Learning Environments and Learning Experiences pages.

“Our oldest son is already thriving at your nursery, we’re eager for our younger son to join the same wonderful environment.”

What learning techniques does Waterfront Nursery use?

Fun and engaging activities help support the key learning experiences which are part of the national curriculums. Children take part in dance, sports, performance, and cookery experiences within the nursery and with students from Edinburgh College.

You can read more about this on our Learning Experiences page.

Will healthy eating be encouraged?

Healthy eating is a big part of our ethos, and we understand that a balanced diet is important to your child’s growth and development, our lunch and sack menus are taken from NHS guidance for early years. Children will also be encouraged to learn about healthy foods by helping to prepare snacks in their playrooms.

If you would like to see an example, you can view a sample menu for the nursery.

“My child is really happy with all the lovely food he receives.”

Are government-funded spaces available?

We are registered with The Care Inspectorate and have been inspected by HMIE. We are proud to offer government-funded preschool places and are registered as a partner nursery with the Edinburgh Council.

When you register for Monday or Friday childcare sessions, you will pay no registration fee for your child, saving you £50.

Edinburgh College students may also be eligible for childcare funding through the College. For more details see the Childcare section of Edinburgh College’s website. For college staff and members of the public, you may be eligible for tax free childcare. You can find out more on the Tax-Free Childcare section of the government website.
