This website is run by Edinburgh College. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability. AbilityNet is a UK charity that exists to change the lives of disabled people by helping them to use digital technology at work, at home or in education.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- The map on our ‘Contact’ page is not fully operable using some common control methods.
- The form on our ‘Apply’ page does not display at very low screen resolutions and does not always alert screen reader users when form fields have not been filled in.
- Some documents on this website are provided in Word or PDF format and these may not be fully accessible.
- There are some repeated links.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Edinburgh College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances’ listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
- The form on the ‘Apply’ page does not display at low screen widths (for example 320 pixels wide). This fails WCAG criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
- While the form on the ‘Apply’ page will initially alert screen reader users to error messages for unfilled required questions, it does not alert screen reader users to fields that remain unfilled if the user has subsequently filled in some fields but missed others. This fails WCAG criterion 4.1.3 Status Messages.
- The embedded Google Map on the ‘contact us’ page showing the location of the Waterfront Nursery cannot be moved around with a single/double click/tap (it can be moved around using keyboard when it has focus). This fails WCAG criterion 2.5.7 (Dragging Movements). We have provided the nursery’s address along with information on getting to the nursery.
- Some of our older PDFs and Word documents don’t meet accessibility standards: for example, they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2. By 31 March 2026, we plan to fix or replace these with accessible HTML pages.
- The site title, which links to the home page, is hidden from view. however, it and the link are detected and read out by screen readers immediately after the identical alt text description and link for the site logo. We are exploring how to fix this.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Disproportionate burden
We have not made any disproportionate burden claims.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
We have a third-party embedded map on our ‘Contact’ page. Online maps and mapping services are exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We are committed to the continual improvement of the accessibility of our website. We achieve this by doing the following:
- Perform regular accessibility audits.
- Content editors are to ensure new content is accessible.
- Continually addressing any errors as they are identified.
