The Nursery held a Fun Day which was attended by over 200 parents, children, relatives and friends. The event was organised by staff after feedback from the Parents Forum in October.
Activities such as face painting, card making, snow globes and icing biscuits where available for all to take part in within the different playrooms.

Outside agencies helped make the day more enjoyable. We would like to thank Monkey Music, Tiger Cubs, Pick a–Party, City of Edinburgh Recycling department, Lothian and Borders Police and who can forget the Fire Brigade who where a great success with both children, parents and staff.

Also on the day we had, a delicious Chocolate Fountain, mini manicures, cake stall, reindeer hut, teas & coffees and our raffle. Alongside the day we ran a Fundraising Family Portrait shoot, Christmas Cards, Tempest Photography. Through all the different events we raised a grand total of £1,411.12 which we plan to use towards the future development of the Nursery garden area.

Jennah enjoying a manicure from Lisa, parent & staff member from Edinburgh College.
This event could not have been possible without the support from nursery staff, Edinburgh College and above all our parents and children.
The day was so successful and feedback was so positive that we plan to hold a similar event in the summer term.

Pre-School Graduation

Each summer every child leaving The Waterfront Nursery to attend school takes part in a graduation ceremony in the college. The children wear mini graduation gowns and mortar boards and receive a scroll to say they are well on their way to achieving the Early Level of the Curriculum for Excellence.
The children’s parents are invited to see their child graduate from the nursery, as are all of the other Pre-School children. Over the past few years, the Principal from the college has attended to present each child with their scroll and gives a speech to the audience.
Last year we held a graduation ceremony in the PASS theatre and it was extremely successful, and in previous years we have had lots of press coverage. There were over 30 children graduating last year and everyone had a fantastic day!
The children are involved in making the decorations for the room in the college and we make up our own song with the children about going to school and the things they are going to learn. We also created an Art Gallery, using the children’s art work produced throughout their Pre-School year. We also had a piper who piped the children into the theatre!
The Pre-School teacher makes a speech to the parents and graduating children which is then followed by a photo opportunity in the college’s courtyard.
The Pre-School graduation day is an enjoyable experience for all involved and gives our children the send-off they deserve, as they are becoming the successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors that the Curriculum for Excellence desires.

Four and five year olds attending Edinburgh’s Waterfront Nursery successfully completed the first stage of the new Curriculum for Excellence, and have officially graduated from the nursery. It is one of the very first nursery schools in Scotland to fully embrace the new Curriculum for Excellence and hosted a graduation ceremony with a difference. They have all successfully completed the first stage of the new Curriculum for Excellence, and have officially graduated from the nursery.

Complete with mortar boards and gowns, the children took part in their very own graduation ceremony and received certificates of their achievement from Miles Dibsdall, Principal at Edinburgh’s Telford College.

Eve waits eagerly for her certificate.

Brooke, Mhirin and Eve give us a wave.

A piping hot Burns Supper

Corporal Andy Reid, a piper with The Highlanders, 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS) recently helped give our children the taste of a real Burns Supper.

More accustomed to playing for troops in Afghanistan as well as performing the Royal Guard for the Queen at Balmoral Castle, Corporal Andy Reid gave up some of his time and formally opened our Burns Supper as he piped in the haggis for the children’s lunch.

Lynn Muir, Waterfront Nursery Manager, explained: “The children and staff were delighted that Andy came down to our nursery to help give the children an authentic Burns Supper. We’ve never had a piper perform before and we’re honoured that he’s given up his time for us. As part the learning programme for all our children, we recited Burns poems throughout the day and decorated the nursery with all things Scottish. The children were all very excited about the day and they loved their haggis, neeps and tatties, as well as hearing the pipe music.
